United States Coast Guard was formed in 1915 by merging of the Revenue Cutter Service and the Life Saving Service in 1915, later in 1939 the Lighthouse Service was added to the Coast Guard and in 1946 Congress permanently transferred the Bureau of Marine Inspection and Navigation to the Coast Guard. The Coast Guard is known as the Maritime Guardians of the nation and this website reflects the backgound and history of the Coast Guard from 1790 until the present.
